Back when my stepdaughter was in high school (she graduated in 2018), a teacher once asked her class who Steve Jobs was.
The class was quiet, and then one person volunteered the answer that it was the guy who hosts “Dirty Jobs” on the Discovery network.
Umm, no.
I was shocked when I heard that story. Utterly shocked.
How soon they forget. Within five years of his passing, there were people who didn’t know who Steve Jobs was or what he did.
I have to admit that as someone with no children of their own, I carry a bit of sadness over the fact that the only things left of me after I pass away are the things I create.
It’s probably part of the reason why I’m so consumed with creating a legacy for myself and my followers.
Abraham Lincoln was also concerned with this (although he had 2 boys out of 4 survive him). As a matter of fact, a lot of Thought Leaders are concerned with this.
I’m not trying to be maudlin here; you can be forgotten while still alive.
In fact, if you don’t keep in close contact with your followers, you will be shocked and dismayed at just how fast they will move on without you. They will forget you.
Keep in touch with your followers. The more touches, the better.
On that note, let’s you and I keep in touch, shall we? You can get Thought Leadership advice from me every day at You Can Be A Thought Leader. Sign up today so you don’t forget!
